The following sequence goes through the ordering
steps and shows how you can check that your
credit details will be securely transmitted.
It is based on the appearance
when using Mozilla Firefox - the
appearance will probably differ slightly with other browsers
but the principles remain the same.
- use the search or browse pages to find
book(s) that you want
- click on the 'add to cart' button to
add a book to your shopping cart
- browse for further books and, when ready,
return to the shopping cart
- check your shopping cart contents and
if satisfied that it contains what you want,
click on 'order'
- complete the order form and click on
'send' to send an email to the seller
- if the seller takes credit cards then
you will receive an acknowledgement with
a button to 'access the secure credit card
transmission form'

- click on the long button to go to the
secure form

- note that there is a small padlock in
the lower right corner. This tells you that
the form is on a secure server but you can
check by clicking on the padlock (in some
browser you may need to double click or
right click). If you have no interest in
the technical details, click
here to go to the next stage

- you then see a mini window that
confirms the secure nature of the form.
For further details you can also click
on the View button and see the security
certificate

- the security certificate gives the
technical details of encryption and
validity.
- to complete
the order, enter your credit card details.

- select the card type you are using
from the drop-down list that the seller
takes
- enter your credit or debit card
number
- enter the card security id
- select your card expiry date from
the drop-down lists
- enter the cardholder name and the
- billing address (the address at
which you receive the card statements)
- if using Switch or Maestro, most
UK sellers will also need a start date
and/or an issue number. There is no
field on this form to enter them and
so you can type them in the Billing
Address field (after the address)
- enter your email address (and double
check that you have entered it correctly!)
- click on the 'submit' button to
send the details, securely, to the seller.
